How to Make a Sailor Bracelet

A bracelet is a form of jewelry that is placed on the wrist. It can be made from a number of materials like copper, gold, beads and bronze among others. Different bracelets are made for different purposes; therefore, there are a number of different types of bracelets. An example of a type of bracelet is a sailor bracelet. It is also known as a Turk’s head sailor bracelet and is said to be worn by sailors, to enable them wipe sweat and dirt off their skin. This bracelet is easy to make if you follow a certain number of steps or directions on how to make a sailor bracelet.

The very first step in making a sailor bracelet is acquiring the materials you need for the job. First of all, you need something that has the shape of your wrist. It could be a tin or bottle. Whichever works for you and has the same circumference like your wrist. You will use this while making the bracelet. Another thing that you will need is the actual bracelet material, which could be a string, a thread or twine made of nylon or cotton materials. This is what you will use for the actual making of the bracelet.

You also need to choose the color that you would like the bracelet to have. Since many of the bracelets today are made as fashion statements, you should choose a color that will be easy for you to wear around.

You should also take appropriate measurements so as t have the right amount of string to use. You should therefore measure your wrist and compare it with the string. However, you should make the string to be nine times longer than the measurements for your wrist. This will help to ensure that the string you use is sufficient enough for your wrist.

After acquiring the materials, you can then start making your sailor bracelet. The first step is to put the string over the tin making an X with one string over the other. You should however leave a small tail at one end, because you will need this for finishing the bracelet. You can ensure the safety of the tail by marking it with tape. This will help prevent disturbances that might occur with it is moving constantly and interrupting the braiding process.

The next step is to wrap the other end (longer end) around the tin, bringing it to the middle of the X, then under the upper leg of the x, on the right. After this, you should pull on the string all the way through.

The next step is to make an oval shape or loop by moving the X’s upper left leg over its right leg. This movement of the upper left leg over the right should create an oval shaped opening. After creation of the opening, the next step is to pass the longer end of the string through this opening. On turning the tin, you will notice that this process has created another X. you should again pass the string under the right upper leg of the X and repeat the whole oval shaping process till you get some form of braid.

The next step is to follow the original string, to form a second parallel line and on continuing with the knotting, you will soon see that it gets harder to pass the string through the oval shape. At this point, you can gently slide the bracelet off the tin and continue knotting it in your hands.

However, while knotting the bracelet in your hands, you should ensure that you do not make it too small. In other words, you should not pull on the string so much as to make it too tight. Leave it to be a little loose, so as to have enough space for your wrist.

The braiding should continue until you have a total number of three parallel lines. Each line will be passing through an oval shape and coming up under it. Once satisfied with the knotting, you should then tie the two ends of the string together to make a knot and then weave them into the bracelet, so as to make a neat end.

Another simpler way of making the bracelet is by making it on your wrist. This will ensure that the bracelet is the right size and that it can easily be slid on and off the wrist. While weaving on the wrist, the process is the same like weaving on a tin or can. The only difference is that with the wrist wove bracelet, you will not need to make adjustments on the size. It will be a perfect fit, all the way.

It is therefore noted from this tutorial that, making a sailor bracelet is an easy thing. You just have to know where to knot the pieces.
